Oleg Vladimirovitch Polunin (novembre 1914 - luglio 1985) botanico, insegnante e viaggiatore inglese. Era uno dei tre figli degli artisti Vladimir (nato nell'impero russo ) ed Elizabeth Polunin. Tutti e tre i figli erano interessati alle scienze naturali: Nicholas Polunin (1909-1997) era un esploratore e ambientalista artico e Ivan Polunin (1920-2010) era un medico, fotografo ed etnografo.
Educato al Magdalen College di Oxford, Oleg Polunin ha insegnato presso la Charterhouse School di Godalming, nel Surrey, per oltre 30 anni, dedicando in seguito il suo tempo a scrivere guide autorevoli e popolari per la flora dell'Europa e dell'Himalaya. La sua opera più conosciuta è Flowers of Europe (1969), un testo classico per botanici e lettori. Polunin viaggiò molto alla ricerca di campioni e fotografie e scoprì diverse nuove specie. Ha ricevuto il Linnean Society ‘s HH Bloomer Award nel 1983.
